Water Conservation

Water Conservation

Although about 70% of the Earth is covered with water, only 3% of the Earth’s water is fresh. In recent years, this fresh water supply has been shrinking at an alarming rate and recent droughts in the Southeast have increased the need to conserve this precious natural resource.

As a reference point, the average apartment community resident uses about 3,000 gallons of water each month. This number does not include the common area water consumption used for landscape irrigation or maintenance of the community pool.

We encourage our apartment community residents to reduce water consumption as much as possible and have provided a few tips below:

  • Advise our staff immediately of leaking plumbing fixtures or if you see or hear running water.
  • Whenever possible, do not hand-wash dishes. The water flow on a kitchen faucet is 2.2 gallons of water per minute - almost the same as a shower head.
  • Only run the dishwasher when it is full.
  • Take a shower instead of a bath.
  • Do not use the toilet as a trash receptacle.
  • Do not use the toilet as a trash receptacle.
  • Store drinking water in the refrigerator rather than running the faucet until the water is cool.
  • Do not rinse dishes before placing in the dishwasher; instead scrape food from dishes into the trash.
  • Only wash full loads of clothes and adjust the water level accordingly.
  • Do not allow water to run while brushing your teeth or shaving.
